THIRSK Racecourse’s first meeting of the season will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Injured Jockeys Fund. The charity has spent more than £17m in helping more than 1,000 jockeys whose injuries have forced some of them to give up riding. Racing on Saturday (April 12) will start at 2.15pm. An appeal to help families whose homes were destroyed in a fire has raised £13,000. Harrogate residents have donated the funds to people living in flats above Prezzo restaurant, in Albert Street, following the blaze on March 18, while local firms have offered food vouchers.
