A DARLINGTON church held an egg decorating competition to celebrate the start of the school Easter holidays.

The event was held as part of the weekly coffee morning in Northgate United Reformed Church (URC) on Saturday (April 5).

Participants, both adults and children, competed to make the most creatively decorated Easter eggs.

The eggs were decorated using brightly-coloured and chocolate icings, sweets and stencils to make beautiful designs as well as Easter chickens and rabbits.

The winners of the competition received Easter-themed prizes, such as chocolate treats and toys, and their eggs were put on show for all the competitors and coffee morning regulars to enjoy.

A church spokesman said the event was a success and the church is hoping to continue the chocolate-fuelled fun tradition every Easter.

Coffee mornings are held at the Northgate URC every Sunday morning after to provide free refreshments for Darlington’s church community.
