VOLUNTEERS are being sought to help tackle the problem of child abuse.
The ChildLine Schools Service in North Yorkshire is looking to recruit ten people in Northallerton, Richmond, Bedale and Catterick to help deliver its programme.
Using school assemblies and workshops, the service aims to ensure that children have an understanding of abuse in all its forms, including neglect and bullying, and how to protect themselves.
It encourages children to recognise situations where they may need help and tells them ways of accessing help and support.
The NSPCC service is free of charge and focuses on children aged nine to 11 years old. It is led by volunteers who deliver assemblies at local schools followed by an interactive workshop a week later.
Service co-ordinator Tracey Weaver said: “Volunteers are key to the delivery of this exciting new service so it is vital that local people come forward to help us achieve the aim of protecting future generations.”
