RESIDENTS are being warned to lock doors and windows after thieves stole wallets from two homes during sneak break-ins.

Police in Spennymoor issued the warning after crooks struck at homes in Tudhoe Village and on Bryan Street, in nearby Spennymoor.

The thefts took place late in the evening on Sunday (April 6) when unlocked back doors were used to gain access.

Detective Constable Jonathan Stoker, of the Spennymoor Serious Crime Team, said: “This is an opportunist offence and I’d like to be able to reduce the risk of others becoming victims.

“I’d like to take this opportunity to remind residents to keep the door locked even if they are in the house.”

Anyone with information about the crimes should contact Spennymoor police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800-555111.
