CHILDREN put on their dancing shoes during an Easter holiday sports workshop.

The event took place at Teesdale School, in Barnard Castle, for youngsters aged nine to 12, thanks to funding from the Big Lottery.

Durham County Council sports activators, Lucy Henkley and Abigail Moscrop, ran activities that young people asked for including dodge ball, athletics, football and new age curling.

There was also a dance workshop in which youngsters learned an impressive street dance and cheerleading-inspired routine using pom-poms and incorporating gymnastics and posed balances.

Eve Galloway, who organised the session, hopes more children attend a second day of Big Lottery-funded activities at the school on Wednesday (April 16), from 10am to 3pm.

Multi sports, street dance and an Easter bake-off are on offer for nine to 12-year-olds, who are in school years five to eight, at any school.

Free places must be pre-booked and participants should take a packed lunch.

Drinks will be provided. Call Eve Galloway 07522-034171.
