DARLINGTON Building Society is providing support to a Girls’ Brigade group to assist with the purchasing of materials and a day out.

Each branch in the society’s network is allocated an annual community support fund with staff able to choose which local worthy cause or causes they want to support.

Susan Coatsworth, who works at the Tubwell Row branch, nominated Darlington Girls’ Brigade to receive the £250 donation.

She has been in contact with Girls Brigade captain Judith Porteus and believes it is a very worthwhile organisation.

Ms Coatsworth said: “The Darlington Girls’ Brigade is a wonderful organisation that is both educational and enjoyable for all involved.

“The materials and trips out can be very expensive and we are very pleased that we can contribute to helping with this.

“It is so important that young people get involved in positive and educational activities and groups.”

Ms Porteus said: “We are very grateful for the donation, it will go a really long way in helping us continue certain activities and plan more trips out with the girls.

“It is a pleasure working with such a fantastic group of girls and I hope to continue long into the future."

Darlington Girls’ Brigade has been running in Northland Methodist Church for more than 32 years, with meetings held on Tuesdays between 6pm and 7.30pm.
