AN EVENT designed to keep motorcyclists safe on the roads has been organised by North Yorkshire Police and road safety organisations.

Advice for bikers on advancing their road skills along with observed motorcycle rides will be on offer at the event for bikers across the region on Saturday, April 19.

Taking place at DW Motorcycles in Scarborough, riders will have the opportunity to have their skills assessed through an observed ride with a police motorcyclist or a member of the Institute of Advanced Motorists.

The 95 Alive York and North Yorkshire Road Safety Partnership will be on hand to give away free copies of the latest Biker’s Gide to North Yorkshire, along with other items such as visor wipes and ear plugs.

Transport Minister and Scarborough and Knaresborough MP Robert Goodwill will also be in attendance.

Traffic Sergeant Neale Rees, from the force’s Roads Policing Group, said: “We want bikers to feel welcome in North Yorkshire and enjoy our roads but we also want them to return home safely so that they can come back again and again.”

Fiona Ancell, Road Safety and Travel Awareness Officer from North Yorkshire County Council added: “This is a good opportunity for us to meet up with fellow bikers and bring them up to date with what is happening on our roads and to listen to their concerns.

“We want to see fewer crashes and casualties – in fact we would love to see a casualty free season and want to work with all motorcyclists to try to achieve that aim.”

The event will take place between 10am and 4pm on Saturday, April 19 at D W Motorcycles on Roscoe Street, Scarborough.
