BOOT CAMP members will channel their energy into a good cause when they take part in a charity netball tournament next month.

Fifty-eight members of the Alison Wadge-Corr Boot Camp in Bishop Auckland have already signed up to take part in the Cancer Research UK Race for Life.

And, to ensure they raise as much money as possible for the charity, the group, which meets most mornings at Auckland Youth and Community Centre, is organising a mini netball tournament at Bishop Barrington School on Saturday, May 3.

So far, six teams have signed up for the event and will battle it out in a series of matches.

There will also be a barbeque and a raffle, featuring a large selection of prizes donated by County Durham businesses.

Spa treatments, haircuts, beauty products and restaurant vouchers are just some of the goodies on offer.

Event organiser, Sophie Moffatt, 21, said: “We are seeking sponsorship for Race for Life but we wanted to come up with other ways of raising money too.

“Cancer is something that affects so many of us. A few members of my family have died from the disease and the more research carried out the better.”

The event takes place from 9am to 3pm.

Entry is free but donations are welcome.
