Has the bike theft not been caught on camera?
I would also question the strength of the bike lock if someone easily cut through it. I know it shouldn't have to come to it, but if you are going to spend hundreds of pounds on a bike, then spend an extra few quid on a decent lock.
It is concerning though, as that is a place a semi-regularly leave my bike too.

I park my bike in the same place. I often come back to see it laid on ther floor and on one occasion it was vandalised again in a busy street in broad daylight. Police and CCTV are useless.

I have had bikes stolen in the past. I just buy cheap bikes now otherwise I get too upset when it is stolen or vandalised.
