BOOK STALL: Darlington Lions Club will host a bookstall in Darlington Market on Saturday, April 26, between 10am and 4pm. There will be thousands of books available on the stall and at the Lions’ nearby bookshop in Blackwellgate. Books are 50p each. The Darlington Lions bookshop is open every Monday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 10am until 4pm.

COFFEE MORNING: Heighington WI will hold a coffee morning between 10am and noon on Saturday, May 3 in Heighington Village Hall. Entry is £1.50, which includes a cup of coffee or tea and a homemade scone with jam. There will also be a cake and craft stall and a chocolate tombola.

GET FIT: A new fitness class aimed at people who only have a short time to exercise is coming to Darlington, led by instructor Michelle Edgeworth. The Insanity fitness class takes 30 minutes and features high-intensity interval training for over 16s. Classes will be held at Hummersknott Academy, starting on June 3, on Tuesdays between 7.15pm and 7.45pm and Fridays at 5.45pm to 6.15pm. WARD SURGERY: The councillors for the North Road ward – Alan Macnab, Anne-Marie Curry and Fred Lawton – will hold a ward surgery for local people on Wednesday, April 23, at St Thomas Aquinas Church Hall, between 1pm and 2pm.

SCENIC WALK: This week’s Wednesday Walk, a free event organised by Darlington Borough Council to help people get fit, is a five mile walk that will start at Broken Scar. Walkers should meet at 10am at the Broken Scar car park. There is no need to book a place.

READING FUN: Cockerton Library will host a Bookstart Rhymetime session aimed at children four and under on Thursday, April 24, between 9.15am and 10am. Entry is free.

FEEDING SUPPORT: Specialist advice and support about breast feeding is available at the Dolphin Centre, in Darlington, on Thursday, April 24, between 9.30am and 11.30am.
