A TOAST will be raised to St George at Darlington’s Market Cross on Wednesday, in honour of his Saint’s Day.
The Mayor and Mayoress of Darlington, Charles and Carol Johnson, will be joined by other dignitaries from the town, including citizen of the year, Lol Degnan, and young citizen of the year, Danny Stevens, at noon to raise a glass to the patron saint of England.
The town crier Peter Stemmer will also take part in the event.
Councillor Johnson said: “It’s a real pleasure to recognise St George’s Day with a toast and hope to continue in this tradition for many years to come.”
Darlington Library’s junior mascot Deefor the Dragon will be joining the celebrations by handing out roses to members of the public courtesy of Flowers by Nattrass.
