A REVAMPED post office that will offer some of the longest opening hours in the area has been officially reopened by the Mayor of Darlington.

Middleton St George Post Office was closed for several weeks while it was modernised with a new open plan layout earlier this year.

The post office has been more closely integrated with the village shop, which means post office transactions can now be carried out during the store’s general opening hours, between 6am and 8pm, seven days a week.

Owner Andy Hill, who is also a Middleton St George parish councillor, said: “We were delighted to have the opportunity to modernise the Post Office and we are very pleased to be re-launching it for the community.

“It has been transformed and everyone likes the improvements and the fact we are also opening so early each morning and until 8pm each evening has been welcomed by our customers.”

Councillor Charles Johnson, Mayor of Darlington, said: “Everyone knows how important the post office network is in our local communities and I am delighted to have the opportunity to officially open the new-look premises.

“The longer opening hours will be welcomed by customers. I wish Mr Hill every success with the business."
