VISITORS to the Head of Steam railway museum on Sunday (April 27) can hear artist Catherine Howard giving a talk entitled Textile Journey, at 1pm.

She is exhibiting at the railway museum with her exhibition, Freepass, which explores railway heritage and journeys travelled on the railways from Darlington to countryside destinations around Great Britain.

Tickets for the lecture cost £4 and include entry to the exhibition and a complimentary tea/coffee.

EASTER RITUAL: The Right Reverend Mark Bryant, Bishop of Jarrow spent Maundy Thursday evening with about 30 parishioners of St Matthew and St Luke’s Church, in Brinkburn Road. The evening began with a meal of lamb, unleavened bread and bitter herbs accompanied with wine. This is a celebration of the Passover festival and Jesus’ last night with his disciples. As part of the evening Bishop Mark washed the feet of 12 people, symbolising Christ washing the feet of the disciples.

CLUB MEETS: The next meeting of the Darlington Embroiderers’ Guild will be on May 3, at Elm Ridge Methodist Church, in Carmel Road South, Darlington. A talk, entitled Colour, Texture and Beads, will be given by Sandra Wallace. The meeting starts at 2pm and visitors are very welcome for a small charge.

MILITARY PARADE: There will be a large military parade in the Market Square and surroundings on Saturday (April 26), at 11am. About 12 standards will be paraded with senior Army officers and dignitaries including the Darlington mayor Charles Johnson and mayoress Carol Johnson. The 50 Northern Signals Squadron of the 32 Signals regiment will exercise their right of freedom to march into the Borough of Darlington.

DANCE SHOW: KFA Moves North-East presents its annual dance festival, entitled A Panorama of Movement and Dance, at the Dolphin Centre, on Saturday, May 17. ROAD WORKS: Motorists may find ongoing work to realign Darlington’s inner ring road will be complicated by cabling works in Parkgate, which start on April 28 and are expected to be completed by May 1. The works, which are being carried out on behalf of Northern Powergrid, will involve a bus lane closure.
