A CRICKET league has received an £800 boost thanks to a national company keen to support projects close to home.

Specsavers, in Bishop Auckland, has agreed to sponsor the Wear Valley Indoor Cricket League.

The money donated by the business will be used to help with the running of the league, equipment and administration costs.

League chairman Kevin Armstrong said it will celebrate its 10th season in November.

Specsavers director Tim Mitchison said: “We tend to support community based projects and we are more than happy to help here.”
