FIRE safety is just one of the topics to be covered at a cancer support group meeting in Newton Aycliffe next week.

Great Aycliffe Cancer Support Group will hold its next meeting at Neville Parade Methodist Church from 6pm to 7.30pm on Thursday, May 1.

The meeting will feature two guest speakers, Liz Cook, who runs Macmillan Information Centres at Newton Aycliffe and Peterlee, and a local fireman, who will talk about the importance of fire safety in the home, especially when people are ill.

Information will also be given on how to access free smoke and carbon monoxide alarms.

Great Aycliffe Cancer Support Group is for anyone who has been affected by cancer, including carers and relatives.

Last month, founder Allison White, who was diagnosed with leukemia in 2009, asked for donations to fund day trips for members.

She would like to thank Gestamp Tallent, Andrews Gardening and Landscape Services and everyone else who contributed.

The group will enjoy its first day out to Seaton Carew and Hartlepool Marina on Sunday, May 11.

To support the group, contact Ms White on 07762-258696.
