A LANDMARK pub, which has recently undergone a £450,000 makeover, will be officially reopened next month by an MP.

Pat Glass, MP for North-West Durham, is to reopen The Jolly Drovers, in Leadgate, near Consett at a launch night on May 9.

Leaseholders Michelle and Brian Proud, who have 30 years experience in the pub trade including running the popular King’s Head in nearby Lanchester, have worked with Punch Taverns to complete the refurbishment.

Around 30 jobs have been created at the pub, which sits on the Coast-to-Coast cycle route.

Mrs Proud said: “The pub looks fantastic and I can’t believe the transformation”.

She added: “The team and I look forward to the reopening and welcoming some old and new faces back to the pub to celebrate the new look with us.”
