POLICE are appealing for information after 12 vehicles had their wing mirrors kicked off in Darlington.

A white male, in his late teens, wearing a blue Berghaus-style jacket, was seen in the area of Hollyhurst Road Major Street and Fairfield, in the early hours of Friday (April 25).

The vandalism took place between 12.30am and 1.30pm, police said.

A Darlington police spokeswoman said: "Following house-to-house inquiries in the locations, a description of a male suspect has been ascertained as follows: white male, late teens, fair coloured hair wearing a  blue coat and possibly a black back pack.

"Did you see this male or know anything about the incident?"

Anyone with information is asked to call Acting Sergeant Catherine Iley, on 101.

Happens regularly in the Northgate area as well as getting car windows smashed. I stopped bothering to report it after having £2000 worth of damage to my car and the police not being interested. Last time I just paid the £120 for repairs and put it down to experience

Extremely difficult to combat if you dont have off street parking, even CCTV isnt a deterrant and usually is not good enough quality to identify culprits, especially at night. If you live on a main thoroughfair without off street parking then odds are your vehicle will be targeted by intoxicated yobs. Cant blame the police as they havent the resources to be everywhere, blame the government for softly softly justice and huge cuts in police numbers.

It's annoying. Stupid, mindless vandalism always is. I've always been able to repair mine, but some cars are not as robust. How are the cameras, if there even were any, be able to spot one the usual greys in hoodies that you see wandering the streets in the early hours.

This is true. The one who smashed my window was caught. There were two witnesses and he had a cut hand but the police did not press charges and even want a large sum of money to release his details for a civil action.
