BLUES MUSIC: Irish blues rock musician Rory Gallagher's old band the Band of Friends will be playing a rare North-East date at the Forum Music Centre, in Borough Road, Darlington, on Saturday, May 10. His music reached a wide audience during the 1970s and 1980s. He died following complications after a liver transplant in 1995. PIZZA THE ACTION: Staff from Domino’s Pizza chains across the region will take part in the Big Jump bungee challenge, a 69m plunge from the transporter bridge, in Middlesbrough, on July 6. The team hope to help raise £50,000 for Rays of Sunshine, a children’s charity that grants wishes for children aged three to 18 with serious and life-limiting illnesses. Rays of Sunshine is Domino’s chosen corporate charity. Having sized up the challenge, Mike and his team will kick off fundraising for the charity with a host of in-store activities at Domino’s over the coming weeks.

RHYME TIME: A poetry masterclass with Cynthia Fuller will be held at the Dolphin Centre, from 10am to 1pm, on Saturday, May 17. The workshop will explore the ways in which poetry can make everyday events seem unfamiliar, mix fact and fiction and embellish the truth. ON STAGE: An evening of Rogers and Hammerstein music will be staged at Darlington Civic Theatre on Monday, May 19, at 7.30pm.
