Councillors' secret update on former Arts Centre sale progress
Updated 12:46pm Thursday 1st May 2014 in News
MEMBERS of Darlington Borough Council’s cabinet received a behind-closed-doors update on the ongoing sale of the former Darlington Arts Centre building.
The press and public was excluded from that part of Tuesday’s (April 29) meeting as it involved the likely disclosure of sensitive financial information.
The Northern Echo understands a number of bids have been received for the building, in Vane Terrace, which has stood empty since the arts centre closed in July 2012.
Plans to convert the building into a combined hotel and arts venue fell through last summer, after the project failed to secure arts centre funding.
Council sources say any development of the former arts centre, or the site it stands on, would need to be sympathetic to the surrounding residential area.
OPEN NIGHT: Darlington Camcorder Club is seeking to build on its recent 25 per cent surge in membership by holding an open evening on May 8. Equipment and software appropriate to new recruits will be demonstrated by experienced club members. Find full details of location and timing on the club website at darlingtoncc.weebly.com
ROAD WORKS: Cabling works in Salisbury Terrace, Darlington, are expected to finish on May 9. The works, carried out by Northern Powergrid, have been ongoing since February. Sewer maintenance, in Church Lane, Middleton St George, is expected to be complete by May 16.
