WOULD-BE entrepreneurs are being encouraged to set up a stall in Darlington’s markets.

The council’s markets team has begun a campaign to encourage new traders to join the indoor market and weekly outdoor market.

New traders will be offered a discount scheme with stalls from £10 a week, not including insurance.

This rises to £20 for the second week, £10 for the third week and £20 thereafter.

It is hoped that the new campaign will raise the profile of Darlington markets and encourage new traders as the weather gets warmer.

The campaign should also help to attract new business to the market in time for the Love your Local Market event on Saturday May 24 and Monday May 26.

Councillor Chris McEwan, Darlington Borough Council’s cabinet member for economy and regeneration, said: “Becoming a market trader is great way to dip your toe in the water to see if your business model works.

“It is a low-risk way to start up your business with minimal costs or overheads.

“We offer stalls for almost every type of business and budget.

“If you’ve got something to sell but not sure how to do it – give our team a call they will be happy to help.”
