A COURSE designed to guide and support veterans on their way back to civilian life will take place at a Help for Heroes recovery centre next month.

The Pathfinder Experience course, at Phoenix House in Catterick Garrison, is run in partnership with Serve On, a community interest company set up to help the transition from military to civilian life, and is split into three stages.

The course is aimed at former members of the military who have been medically discharged or who have developed a medical condition post-discharge.

With guidance from a mentor it looks at helping individuals prepared for employment.

The first stage, Inspire, will run from June 16 to 21. It is free and includes food and accommodation. Phase two, Enable, will run from October 6 to 10, and dates for phase three, Support, will be confirmed soon.

Sally Mendonca, supported courses co-ordinator for the support hub at Phoenix House, said: “The whole experience has really helped the veterans who attended. They have been matched with a mentor, who will help them over the next 12 to 18 months.”

“We’d love more veterans to sign up to the course as it’s a great way for them to get support in thinking about their opportunities.

“We are also always on the lookout for new mentors.”
