A JACOBEAN country hall is to host a candlelight performance as part of a Museums at Night festival.

On Thursday, May 15, Richmond duo Pellingmans' Saraband, made up of husband and wife Jake Heringman and Susanna Pell who specialise in 16th and 17th century music on lute and viola da gamba, will perform at Kiplin Hall, near Scorton.

The concert will be in the library and lit by candles from 6.30pm until 9.30pm as part of Culture24’s Museum at Night festival of inspiring after-hours cultural events.

Pellingmans’ Saraband are at the forefront of the early music movement and have played on one of the Harry Potter soundtracks, The Prisoner of Azkaban; Kate Bush CD, Aerial; and on the soundtrack of The Hobbit.

Throughout the evening, selected readings from some of the many books that line the walls of the 18th century library at Kiplin Hall will be given.

Kiplin Hall administrator Marcia McLuckie said: “This is the second year when we have lit the house with candles for Museums at Night.

“It is very atmospheric and Jake and Susanna’s music will really add to the feeling of moving back through time to the 17th century.”

Admission is £5 per person. The tea room will be open for light suppers and home-baked goods.
