THREE generations of a family have completed a 10k run to raise funds to build a medical centre in a remote area of Nepal.

Retired animal medicines blender Ken Tiffany said he had been inspired to help build the centre in the Himalayan village of Syangja, which is an eight-hour drive from Kathmandu, after visiting orphanages in the area earlier this year.

Mr Tiffany, of Northallerton, said his visit with two friends to the Himalayan village had been the first by Westerners.

The 70-year-old ran alongside his son-in-law and grandson, Jamie and James Clemenson, his nephews Tom Haw and Thomas Capps, and other friends at an event in Blackpool with the aim of raising £1,000 towards building the centre.

He said: “The nearest medical centre to Syangja is75kmaway and there are no ambulances, so the centre will serve around 10,000 people.

“The Nepalese government will provide a doctor, a nurse and medical equipment when the building is completed.”

Mr Tiffany said he would organise further fundraising events in the coming months.
