A FUN day will raise funds for a charity set up in memory of a young woman who died of a brain tumour last year.

Claire Gardiner, 30, from Heighington, near Darlington, died within hours of being diagnosed last January.

Family and friends set up a charity, Madathlon, in her honour and have raised thousands of pounds for lifesaving hospital equipment by undertaking a range of gruelling fundraising challenges.

And, from noon to 3pm on Sunday, June 1, the charity will join forces with fitness experts Terry and Vikki Anderson to stage a family fun day at the couple’s gym, CrossFit All Out at Northfield Way, Newton Aycliffe.

Laura Lineton, one of Miss Gardiner’s best friends, is a CrossFit member and when Mr and Mrs Anderson heard about the cause they were determined to help.

“Claire is a local girl and when we heard her story we were very moved,” said Mrs Anderson. “The charity has the power to help a lot of people.

“Claire also saved lives by donating four of her organs and it is important to raise awareness of organ donation.”

The event will feature a bouncy castle, face painting, Disney Princess, Iron Man, games, music, a raffle, barbecue, chocolate fountain and much more.

Fans of the CrossFit strength and conditioning exercise programme can also donate to take part in a work out of the day challenge.
