A PICTURE drawn by a Dales youngster is now adorning two waste collection wagons, after she won a competition designed to promote the importance of recycling in Richmondshire.

Milly Wood-Weatherill’s picture of a green world was judged to be the best of 318 entries received in the competition run by Richmondshire District Council and Yorwaste.

Milly, 11, who goes to Reeth and Gunnerside Federated Primary Schools, was presented with her prize, a iPad mini, recently, and was also able to see how her drawing looks on one of the waste collection wagons when it turned up at her school.

The competition was organised to coincide with a contract Yorwaste has with Richmondshire District Council to process and sell recyclable material – glass, paper and light card, cans and plastic bottles – collected from kerbsides and recycle banks.

Every primary school in Richmondshire was invited to enter the competition, with the brief of drawing and colouring a picture related to recycling and the environment.

The competition was sponsored by Yorwaste, who paid for the prizes and putting the design on the vehicles.

Councillor Clive World said: “I would like to say a big thank you to all the entrants. The entries were to a very high standard.

“Congratulations to Milly on winning the competition.”

The school was also presented with a box of recycling-related products, including pencils made out of recycled CD boxes and pencil cases made out of recycled tyres.
