A GIRLS' cricket team have been crowned national champions.

Richmond School under-15s returned from Lord's after winning the Lady Taverner's U15 National Championship.

Around 900 schools entered the competition and the four regional winners played one another to determine the national champions on May 7.

Headteacher Ian Robertson said: "The school won all four matches in convincing style.

"It was a terrific occasion and we are immensely proud of our girls - Yorkshire and England's best."

The school is celebrating further sporting success with the senior boys football team winning through to the county cup final.

Richmond School has also been crowned North Yorkshire Swimming Champions and English Girls' Skiing Champions.

Furthermore, 13-year-old Daisy Cooil has been selected for the GB kayaking squad while 16-year-old Holly Flannery is in the GB duathlon development squad.
