A TOWN’S young people will benefit from the fundraising of its new mayor.

Ferryhill Town Council elected Cllr Pauline Crathorne as the new town mayor at its AGM on Wednesday, May 21.

Accepting the chains of office from last year’s mayor Cllr Ken Campbell, she said she will focus on young people during her mayoral year.

She plans to raise funds for Ferryhill Girl Guides and Ferryhill Town Youth Football Club with a series of events throughout the term, including a charity dinner and a carol service at St Luke’s Church.

As well as sitting on the town council, Cllr Crathorne represents Ferryhill on Durham County Council.

Born in Stephenson Street, in Dean Bank, Cllr Crathorne has lived in Ferryhill nearly all of her life.

She was married for 43 years before being widowed and has a son, a daughter and three grandchildren.

She said she looks forward to working for and representing the people of Ferryhill and also meeting new people from around County Durham.
