A FATHER is appealing for help to re-launch a once-popular club for disabled adults.

Paul Ryder, who suffers from cerebral palsy, set up Jumping Jacks in his hometown of Newton Aycliffe in 2011 to provide a place for people with disabilities to have fun and make new friends.

The club was a big success but staffing issues resulted in it being temporary relocated to Chilton.

This caused membership to dwindle and since then attempts to re-establish the group in Newton Aycliffe have proved unsuccessful and it was forced to close.

Mr Ryder, 37, his partner, Lisa Gregory, and another disabled friend are now calling on businesses and companies who may be able to help.

“I just want to create a place for disabled people to come and have fun and make new friends,” said Mr Ryder, a father-of-one.

“I want to help disabled people in my area. I have found it very difficult in the past. It was hard for me to meet people when I was growing up.

“When Jumping Jacks first started we had around 21 people coming along. Everyone had a fun. I know we can do it again.”

Mr Ryder said there were a number of potential venues for the club to meet but needs help to publicise the project and attract new members.

He intends the club to offer a range of fun and sociable activities, including pool, bingo, games, raffle, fundraising opportunities and refreshments.

“If there is anyone out there who can help us I would love to hear from you,” he said.

Any organisation who may be able to assist Mr Ryder should contact 07817-168808 or 01325-494567.
