A RISING star in the world of rugby is celebrating after a successful season.

James Souter, of Hummersknott Academy, in Darlington, was invited to train with the Newcastle Falcons under 15s during their last season.

The 15-year-old also played for his school team, Durham County team and Darlington Mowden Park under 15s as the team’s top point scorer, with 19 tries from 14 appearances.

He is following in the footsteps of the school’s previous rugby stars, Joe Craggs, Sam Lorimer, Elliot Wanless, Oliver Cooper and Rowan Hall Beasley, who have all represented Durham County.

Mr Craggs has moved to Newcastle to train regularly with Newcastle Falcons.

Alasdair Tatham, from the academy’s PE department, said: “James is a good all round sportsman. He has worked hard on his rugby this year and we hope he can build on this success in coming seasons.”
