Special play heading to Darlington

A SPECIAL play highlighting the experiences of a young carer will be visiting a Darlington school this month thanks to the town’s Rotary Club.
Theatre Hullabaloo spent months carrying out research and staging workshops with members of the York-based carers’ group Young Carers Revolution to create the play, Tiny Treasures.
It tells the story of a boy who juggles his school-life with caring for his poorly mother and it was specially commissioned by the young carers as a way of helping children understand the issues affecting young people with caring responsibilities at home.
The play is set to tour throughout the North East and York throughout June and will be stopping off at the Rydal Academy in Darlington on June 10 thanks to sponsorship from Darlington Rotary Club.
Miranda Thain, creative producer of Theatre Hullabaloo, said: “Theatre Hullabaloo is proud to make theatre for young audiences that shines a light on issues that affect the lives of young people.
This project is a particularly special one because the Young Carers Revolution approached us to ask us to make a play to help younger children understand the issues around being a young carer.
“They are a brilliantly inspiring group of young people and we’ve had a huge amount of fun working together to create a piece of theatre which is powerful, emotional and funny – but most of all truthful.”
