AN amateur dramatics society will reveal just what can happen when ‘the cat’s away’ in its upcoming production.
Bishop Auckland Theatre Society (Bats) will perform the late Ian Hornby’s comedy The Cat’s Away at Bishop Auckland Town Hall this week.
The play focuses on family man Alan Hughes who organises a game of cards with some work colleagues when his wife and children go away for the weekend.
To his surprise, the colleagues bring some girls from the office along and the quiet card game descends into a full-scale party.
The next thing Alan knows, his has wife, Marion, has returned to find him in a compromising position with a female party-goer and no recollection of how he got there.
His efforts to recall what happened and make peace with his wife make for an entertaining tale, which is sure to have audience members chuckling throughout.
Director Josh Railton said: “When I first read the play, about five or six months ago, I had read four others and this was the only one that made me laugh out loud.
“Bats is very good at comical and farcical plays and I knew they would do a great job.”
The play takes place at the town hall at 7.30pm from Wednesday, June 11, to Saturday, June 14.
On Wednesday, all tickets cost £5 and, for the other performances, they cost £7 of £6 for concessions.
Tickets are available on the door.
