YOUNGSTERS put their creative talents to good use to help others and give a financial boost to two good causes.

Textile students at Northallerton College staged their annual fashion show - and let their imaginations run riot.

Their themes featured children’s fabric books, 1960s fashion, and even clothing for dogs.

The event was in aid of the hydrotherapy pool appeal for the Dales School in nearby Morton-on-Swale and the Friarage Hospital’s MRI scanner appeal and raised a total of £350.

Head of textiles Linda Breckon said: “It was a fabulous evening with students and staff modelling the clothing and other creations.

“I know they were thrilled to see their work on the catwalk and the money raised will go to some very worthwhile causes.”

The Friends of the Dales School launched a £60,000 appeal earlier this year to refurbish its pool, a vital facility that is crucial to the learning of students with severe and complex needs.

For the past 27 years it has been the only place outside of the James Cook University Hospital, Middlesbrough, to offer the community a hydrotherapy pool.

The £2m appeal to provide the Friarage Hospital with its own MRI scanner was launched a year ago by the South Tees Hospitals Charity in partnership with the Friend of the Friarage. Currently patients must travel to Darlington or Middlesbrough for a scan.
