A PLANNING company is consulting the public over plans for up to 220 houses in the Willington area.

Newcastle-based Signet Planning are considering two schemes in the town.

The first is for up 150 homes off Hunwick Lane in Sunnybrow.

According to drawings published online, it is being proposed to build the new estate on fields behind Cherry Tree Drive and Greenways bordering the former community centre and children’s play area on South View.

A new access road would be linked to Hunwick Lane opposite the Barton Townley garage.

The new estate would also have its own play area and landscaped footpaths with its borders lined with trees.

Signet Planning are also proposing to build up to 70 homes on a field off West Road on the western approach to Willington from Crook.

The planning drawing shows the homes being built on the edge of Willington in a landscaped estate.

Signet Planning said both plans are only at initial consultation stages with more detailed proposals to be brought forward at a later date, subject to approval.

Greater Willington Town Council will be discussing the proposals at 6.30pm tomorrow (July 2) at their office on High Street in Willington.

Members of the public are invited to attend and take part in the discussion.
