VISITORS joined the IT crowd as they helped a Hollywood lookalike raise money for school computers at a school fair.

Pirates of the Caribbean character Captain Jack Sparrow was one of a host of superheroes to grace the fields at Hipswell Church of England Primary School in Catterick.

The annual event raised more than £900 towards the cost of refurbishing the computer network to create an ICT suite for students and the community.

Appropriately, Captain Jack was played by Roy McCormack, the head of IT at the secondary school next door, Risedale Sports and Community College.

Hipswell Primary School head teacher Jon Sykes said: “The event was a complete success and I was thrilled that so many members of the community took part and visited us.”

Visitors were treated to a host of stalls and displays by martial arts experts, Colburn Youth Team and North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service.

Vice chair of the school’s parents’ association, Annmarie Brown said: “The fair is a great opportunity to bring the school and the community together and we always get a fantastic turnout.

“A new refurbished computer suite is likely to cost about £20,000 but for the world our children will grow into IT skills are absolutely essential.”
