A REDISCOVERED artist has captured the steel and shipping industries in a new exhibition.
David Watson is showcasing his work on communities in Teesside at the McGuinness Gallery in Bishop Auckland Town Hall until Saturday, July 19.
He is a forgotten painter from a group of artists that emerged in the 1950s from Victoria Street Secondary Modern School after school art club, in South Bank, Middlesbrough.
The group of painters from the art club is gaining recognition and being referred to as the South Bank School of artists, a Teesside equivalent to the Manchester School in the North-West or the Ashington group of Pitman Painters.
Tom Dalton was the teacher that taught at the after school club that also included Mr Watson's contemporaries - the late David Mulholland and the celebrated landscape artist Len Tabner.
Having spent the majority of his life in the shadows, Mr Watson has now been discovered as a third member of the Victoria Street art club and it is expected his exhibition will prove popular with visitors.
The exhibition was opened by broadcaster Michael Smith, and Mr Dalton and Mr Tabner were also in attendance.
