A BRAVE young girl has happily given up much of her proud head of hair, but all for a worthy cause.

Twelve-year-old Terri-Jo Mould decided to undergo the drastic cut to raise much-needed cash backing for Marie Curie Cancer Care.

It was part of a fundraising event for the cancer support charity staged at Durham Free School, in Gilesgate, Durham, at the weekend.

The first year pupil’s showpiece hair cut not only added to the proceeds of the day, but the removed trestles will also be put to good use, by being donated to help create a wig for a young cancer sufferer.

Proud mother Amanda said TJ, as her daughter is known, also had a personal family reason for offering to support Marie Curie.

“Her own great grandma, Ruby Meadows, who had never previously been in hospital, died from cancer at 91, and she was looked after by Marie Curie nurses.

“They only get paid through donations, so it’s a very worthy charity.”

Mrs Mould said TJ was nervous about the ordeal and she had feared her daughter would not go through with her pledge.

“Although she had a few tears, it was not because it hurt, but because she was happy she had done it.”

The family is now tallying up sponsorship donations along with the funds raised on the day before handing the final figure to a local representative for Marie Curie.
