HUNDREDS of runners are expected to take part in a new 10k event taking place later this year.

The Coxhoe Trail Run, organised by Active Life Coxhoe, will take place on Sunday, September 14 with around 300 people expected to take part.

The route is mainly off road and scenic, along the old railway lines and quarry paths between Coxhoe and Kelloe.

The run is sponsored by Hope Construction Materials, operators of Coxhoe Quarry, and supported by Sedgefield Harriers and Start Fitness.

Event organiser Bal Verdi said: “The Active Life Centre at Coxhoe is all about getting more people enjoying a range of leisure activities inside and outside.

“We are delighted to offer this event to people in the local community and further afield.

“The trail run route will give runners a real feel for the history and importance of quarrying in the area.”

Quarry manager William Nelson added: “Coxhoe Quarry has operated for over a hundred years, but only under the brand of Hope Construction Materials for 18 months.

“We look forward to seeing hundreds of runners in their Hope purple t-shirts take to the countryside around Coxhoe and our site.”
