A POPULAR paddling pool reopens tomorrow (Saturday, July 19) in time for the start of the school summer holidays.

The pool at the Riverside Park in Chester-le-Street, which is one of only three of its kind in the region, has been given a makeover.

The improvements include increased anti-slip measures, painting and water treatment.

The pool will be open every day from 10am to 6pm until Sunday, August 31.

The paddling pool is part of a 5,000 square metre play area that has a 16-foot castle, inspired by the nearby Lumley Castle, which overlooks the park.

Riverside Park, which was created in the 1930s, has long been popular with families throughout the area.

It was redeveloped in the 1990s and now has artist-designed ornamental gardens, an events arena, the play area and a park centre with cafe and toilets.

Julie Lewcock, manager of the Riverside Leisure Complex, said: “The free paddling pool is a much-loved spot to visit in the summer and we are delighted it will open this weekend in time for the start of the school holidays.”
