YOUNGSTERS from the still suffering scene of the 1986 Chernobyl disaster enjoyed a fun-packed day in the sun in North Yorkshire.

The Easingwold Maize Maze hosted a visit by 20 Chernobyl children who are being hosted by families in region.

They are in Britain to enjoy a period away from an area still badly affected by the infamous nuclear accident

The trip allows them to experience fresh air, water and food - and the effects of even a short visit are hugely beneficial.

At the maze they enjoyed solving the main puzzle which this year involves finding World Cup football clues.

They also raced around on go-karts, slid down the big inflatable slide, played in the sandpits and were able to get close to the animals in the petting area including guinea pigs, rabbits and ducklings.

Owner Paul Caygill said: "It was a pleasure to have the children here who seemed to have a great time with us and I hope that we have given them a day to remember."

The maze is open until August 31 and for further information visit easingwoldmaizemaze.co.uk
