LOCAL artists are at the heart of a new exhibition in Darlington.

Colourful work by three North-East artists is currently on display in the Darlington Building Society.

The gallery at the building society was established in a bid to support Darlington’s artists and is now showcasing work by Greta J Coates, Bridget Emmerson and the award-winning Gina Morton, who paints striking miniatures.

All three are members of the Darlington Arts Society, which uses the town centre gallery to promote the work of artists within its fold.

Richard Moses, from the arts society, said: “It’s absolutely fantastic to have this gallery, especially since the closure of the Arts Centre.

“It’s great that we have an area in the town centre to hang our paintings and all round it’s a really good thing.

“It’s undoubtedly great for the artists who can sell their work, it gives people coming into town something to look at and we’re very, very grateful to the building society.”

Paintings are exhibited in the gallery on a rota basis with exhibitions changing every two months.

The new exhibition will run until Monday, September 15.
