A PERFORMING arts group has raised more than £1,000 for a charity that helps children with Down syndrome reach their potential.

Teenagers from Stare, an entertainment troupe part of Stagecoach Darlington and Yarm, organised a special concert to raise money for the Education Centre for Children with Down Syndrome (Eccds).

The Newton Aycliffe-based charity equips children with Down syndrome and their parents with essential skills to help them meet the future with confidence.

Youngsters from the youth theatre have performed at the charity’s annual celebration, to mark World Down Syndrome Day, for the last two years and were keen to support Eccds further.

Maggie Hart, education director and founder of Eccds, said: “It is just amazing that these young people have organised such a successful event and have raised so much money for our charity.

“They really are wonderful kids and the children here love them. My two youngest boys attend Stagecoach and absolutely love it. I would be so proud if my boys turn out like these teenagers and do things to help others.

“Out of all of the fundraising events, this one is very special.”
