LOCAL charity fundraisers are holding a beer festival to raise money for the fight against Alzheimer’s Disease.

The Chester-le-Street fund-raising group of the Alzheimer’s Society is holding the event tomorrow (Friday, August 8) at Chester-le-Street Cricket Club’s clubhouse in Mains Park Road.

Six real ales from local brewers will be on offer and there will also be a selection of wine and Prosecco.

A signed and framed England football shirt, which was signed by the team that beat Albania 2-0 in a World Cup qualifier at St James’ Park in September 2001, will be one of the main items to be auctioned for the charity.

There will also be acoustic music performed by a society member, a pie and pea supper and a quiz. The charity’s community fundraiser for the North-East and Cumbria, Rebecca Scott, said: “We did a wine tasting evening last summer that went down really well and people were asking if we would so something similar again.

“We thought this would be a good way to branch out and do something a little bit different as a fundraiser It should be really good, we are looking forward to it.

A beer tasting session starts at 12.30pm but the event proper begins at 7pm.

Admission costs £7 and includes two beer tokens.
