ORGANISERS of the Darlington 10k say they hope to revive a junior race as part of next year's event.

Sunday's (August 10) race attracted a record number of competitors - more than 1,700 - and is being viewed as a major success.

The numbers were up more than 300 on the previous year for the 17th annual Darlington 10k.

Phil Haymer, events officer for Darlington Borough Council, said: "The event met expectations in all departments.

"On the numbers front, we had 1,450 last year and an extra 300 this time around, which is great news for us and for the town.

"Overall, it was absolutely fantastic and we could not have asked for better.

"To see a new women's course record set by a prestigious athlete like Kate Avery was very, very special.

"The fun run was a big success and we are looking to re-introduce the junior run in time for next year."
