North East Military Vehicle rally returns to Durham City
DOZENS of military vehicles are preparing to descend on Durham City for an event promising plenty to interest and entertain visitors of all ages.
The North East Military Vehicle Rally will be held during the August bank holiday weekend in the grounds of the DLI Museum and Durham Art Gallery.
Now in its 41st year, the event will once again feature around 70 superbly restored vehicles and pieces of artillery dating from the 1930s to the present day.
There will also be stalls, living history displays and dioramas as well as activities for younger visitors, including the chance to help make a large military vehicle out of cardboard and a miniature parachute or military vehicle to take home.
Organised by the North East Military Vehicle Club, the event is open from 10.30am to 4pm on Sunday (August 24) and Monday August 25.
Gillian Robinson, DLI Museum and Durham Art Gallery manager, said: “The Military Vehicle Rally is always a popular day out for all the family.
“While there is plenty to interest even the most dedicated enthusiast, it’s also a very friendly gathering where everyone is welcome and we always make sure there is a lot to keep younger visitors entertained.”
Outdoor displays and activities are free. Normal admission charges apply for activities in the museum and gallery.
