DASHING Dobermans, pretty poodles and clever collies were among the scores of canines vying to steal the show in Hurworth.
The annual Companion Dog Show, organised by the Skernedale Dog Training Club, returned to Hurworth Grange for the tenth year and proved as popular as ever.
There were hotly-fought pedigree classes, judged to Kennel Club standards, as well as novelty classes which included prettiest bitch, waggiest tail and best biscuit catcher.
The overall Best in Show prize was claimed by a border collie called Skittles owned by Karen Dalgleish of Newcastle.
Pam Emmerson, secretary of the Skernedale Club, said the event had been a huge success.
She added: “The fun classes went down very well; they were absolutely chocca.”
The event raised £1,183 for the National Animal Sanctuaries Support League (NAASL) and the Cinnamon Trust, which recruits volunteers to help elderly and poorly people keep their pets at home.
The Skernedale Dog Training Club is starting a new basic obedience training course at Hurworth Grange on September 4, from 7pm to 8pm.
