AN armed robber who threatened two women at gunpoint before escaping with a shop’s takings is being hunted by police.
The raider struck at about 8.50pm on Thursday, August 28, at MacRae’s newsagents on Huntington Road in York.
He entered the shop and threatened two women working there with a handgun, before demanding money and cigarettes.
The robber is described as 5ft 4in to 5ft 5in tall. At the time, he was wearing a dark coloured hooded top with thin horizontal stripes up the arms and across the hood. He was carrying a JD Sports carrier bag.
Detective Sergeant Fionna McEwan said: “Thankfully no-one in the shop was injured as a result of this incident. However, they have quite naturally been left shaken by the experience.
“If you have any information which could help to identify the man responsible I urge you to contact the police as a matter of urgency.”
