DOZENS of young dancers from Darlington braved the ice bucket challenge for charity and have nominated dozens more to do the same.

The youngsters, from the Red Hall Dance Company, accepted a nomination from Sarah Small, play co-ordinator from the Groundwork team.

Parents, friends and family were happy to help fill scores of buckets of iced water to throw over the 48-strong group who ranged from in ages from four up to 20-years-old.

Their efforts raised £105 for the ALS Association, which funds research into Lou Gehrig’s disease, and Macmillan Cancer Support.

After their soaking, the club members nominated fellow dancers from the Dance Wright Dance School and their local councillors Martin Landers and Chris McEwan.

Over the last month the ALS ice bucket challenge has become a global sensation which has raised millions for charity.

Celebrities have been keen to get involved and The Northern Echo’s editor Peter Barron has also taken a soaking for charity.

He nominated the Mowden Park Rugby team and several players took up the challenge at a training session this week, with the remaining injured players expected to get their soaking at half time in Mowden’s opening game of the season this Saturday.
