A TEENAGER spent part of her weekend sat in a bath of baked beans to raise funds for a cancer charity after being inspired by her mother.

Annabel Carvey spent three hours in the bath at Croft Artisan Market, near Darlington, to raise money for Cancer Research UK.

She decided to take part in the challenge after her mother, Dawn, was diagnosed with breast cancer earlier this year.

Mrs Carvey has undergone several operations and is now on the mend.

Annabel has been fundraising since July and, prior to her baked bean challenge, had already raised more than £300 towards her £500 fundraising target.

For a £1 donation, visitors to the market were able to tip a can of beans over the Hurworth School student's head.

Her efforts at the weekend raised a further £33.

The baked beans were supplied by the Morrisons store at Morton Park, in Darlington.

Croft Artisan Market runs from 9.30am to 2.30pm on the second Saturday of each month from March to November at Croft Village Hall.
