A MAN found armed with tools for stealing has been sentenced in court after being caught thieving from a Bishop Auckland Tesco.
Newton Aycliffe Magistrates’ Court heard that 32-year-old Colin Tallentire stole £134.93 worth of goods from the store on September 5.
When police arrested him, they found he was carrying screwdrivers, molegrips, a torch and a Stanley knife.
He admitted the theft in court and also pleaded guilty to going equipped for theft and possession of a knife.
District Judge Martin Walker accepted that Tallentire, of Cheltenham Court, St Helen Auckland, only intended to use the knife for cutting security tags off shop goods and not as a weapon.
He ordered him to pay £60 compensation and £40 towards court costs, as well as imposing a six-month community order with supervision.
