A GROUP of Rotarians from Darlington raised £4,500 for charity by tackling the gruelling Way of the Roses cycle ride.

The 12 riders took three days to ride 174 miles between Morecambe in Lancashire to Bridlington in Yorkshire, stopping at Lancaster, Settle and Grassington, Fountains Abbey and Ripon and Malton on the way.

The ride got off to a slightly delayed start when the bus taking the team to Morecambe broke down eight miles past Scotch Corner but, with a replacement bus swiftly called up, they wre soon on their way.

Darlington Rotary president Ken Wiper praised the efforts of the team for their efforts to raise funds for local and national charities.
